On the GET Baltic natural gas exchange operating in the Baltic States and Finland, gas cost an average of EUR 33.30 per megawatt hour (EUR/MWh) in April. This is 8 percent. more than in March (30.73 EUR/MWh) and 30 percent. less than in April last year, when the average gas price in the region was 47.89 EUR/MWh.

“The price of gas in the region rose in the middle of April, which was influenced by the unexpectedly cold weather and, as a result, the increased demand for gas in the market. However, later when the weather warmed up, the trajectory of the gas price began to go down,” Giedrė Kurmė, head of the GET Baltic exchange, was quoted as saying in the report.

“The Estonian-Finnish gas pipeline connection “Balticonnector”, which started operating again on April 22, also had an influence on the price drop. Due to this circumstance, the price differences between the different trading floors of the GET Baltic exchange also decreased. This shows that the additional gas supply alternative creates favorable conditions for price convergence,” she added.

The average price on the Lithuanian trading floor of the GET Baltic exchange was 7 percent in April. higher than in March and reached 31.73 EUR/MWh. The price of gas grew by 14 percent in the common market of Latvia and Estonia. up to 33.24 EUR/MWh. In Finland, the price of gas increased by 3 percent. up to 34.37 EUR/MWh.
