Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, quoting the country’s chief rabbi, said that “someone tried to set the Nozyk synagogue on fire with a Molotov cocktail.”

“Thank God no one was hurt,” added Minister X, earlier on Twitter.

“I condemn this shameful attack on the Nozyk Synagogue in Warsaw,” Polish President Andrzej Duda wrote on Platform X. – There is no place for anti-Semitism in Poland. There is no place for hatred in Poland.”

Warsaw’s Jewish community expressed its “concern and outrage” over the attack in a statement. “Fortunately, the synagogue was empty during the night and the material damage was minor,” the statement added.

“So far, we do not know anything about the person or persons who carried out the attack, or their motives,” said Eliza Panek, vice-president of the Warsaw Jewish community.

Warsaw police told AFP they “always take incidents of this nature seriously” and assured they would do everything to bring those responsible to justice.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

But Sikorski’s report also raises the question of who could have carried out the attack at a time when Poland is celebrating its 20th anniversary of membership in the European Union.

“Maybe the same ones who painted the Stars of David in Paris?” he speculated.
