This week, a wave of actions in solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip broke out on US university campuses.

The Los Angeles Police Department wrote on the X social network that 93 people were arrested.

“No injuries have been reported. Patrols will remain in the area until tomorrow,” the statement added.

Around midnight, the university said the protest was over and the campus would remain closed until further notice.

The pro-Palestinian demonstration was one of the latest in a series of confrontations with law enforcement by students angry over the rising death toll in Israel’s war with the Islamist militant group Hamas.

Protests began at New York’s Columbia University, where several dozen people were arrested last week. The university administration called the police to quell the protest, which some Jewish students said was anti-Semitic.

The participants of the demonstration, which included Jewish students, denied the aspect of anti-Semitism.

Los Angeles police officers went to the campus of the University of Southern California on Wednesday afternoon, Captain Kelly Muniz told reporters.

According to her, the police helped the university arrest the offenders who refused to leave the premises.

The White House said on Wednesday that US President Joe Biden supports free speech on US university campuses as more students protest Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip.

“The president believes that free speech, debate and non-discrimination on campuses are important,” said White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. “But when we talk about hate speech, when we talk about violence, we have to pay attention to that.”

Mr. Biden condemned anti-Semitism on Sunday, saying it had no place on college campuses.
