“The position of the municipality has been expressed, they do not see the possibility for us to carry out activities there. Based on that position, we are not continuing the EIA process,” T. Konkovskis said to Eltai on Tuesday.

A representative of European energy says that the search for a suitable location for the plant continues. According to him, although the EIA procedures have already started in the Akmene district, there are other places where the factory could be built.

“Yes (we will have to look for another place – ELTA). But we were already looking for other places from the beginning. We are continuing the work,” he said.

“Those 2 places where the most advanced and researched were, that’s where we started the EIA procedures. It’s one here, the other is in Akmene. There is still work to be done elsewhere,” he explained.

On March 28, the municipality of Kretinga voted against the construction of a green fuel factory in the village of Auksūdis in the district’s Darbėnai ward. 22 members of the district council did not support the development of the project, 1 abstained.

According to the decision, the construction of such a factory would contradict the strategic plan of Kretinga district.

“The emergence of such an industry would reduce the possibility of further harmonious development of tourism, high added value business and the district’s attractiveness for investment and job creation in these areas of ecological business, and would limit the possibility of implementing the vision of the Strategic Development Plan in the future,” reads the municipality’s decision.

The decision is also based on 9 thousand. Residents of Kretinga district and neighboring municipalities expressed written objection to the construction of the factory.

ELTA reminds that in January of this year, the Danish energy company “European Energy” announced that it was choosing a place where it could build an e.methanol and hydrogen plant in Lithuania, the project of which is planned to invest over 400 million. euros.

As “Verslo žinios” announced at the time, environmental impact assessment was started in two places – Akmene and Kretinga districts.

The company stated in a statement that it would be the largest power plant of its type in the Baltic and Scandinavian countries.

It is tentatively planned that environmental impact assessments will take about a year, so the location for the factory will be chosen in 2025. It is planned that it will start operations in 2028, and its capacity will ensure 19.25 thousand people per year. tons of hydrogen and 100 thousand tons of e. methanol production. This green fuel is expected to be mainly used by the shipping sector.
