Although the designer Karina Panina started her career quite recently, she has already accumulated a considerable amount of experience: she has created costumes for several Lithuanian celebrities, presented collections at well-known international events, collaborated with such large companies as Adidas and Teleloto. Their ongoing friendship can also be seen in the latest collection.

This year, the designer decided to do her first independent show, which, according to her, prompted her to get to know the current manager, Nerija Kanapkaite.

Designer Karina Panina’s original idea for the collection arose after all the events of recent years, when she presented her collection at various fashion events, and her work became popular with Lithuanian stylists and stars.

“After all the events and projects, when there is a calm that I am not used to, I get lost and ask myself: who am I? I don’t know. I remember that I had just finished studying fashion design, so Google I am looking for the meaning of the word in the search: designer – constructor, artist… The constructor is “Lego”, she says.

“The idea of the collection “Not in my shoes” came from a state of confusion, when I scattered myself in many activities and love relationships. Along with the Lego parts in the costumes, I started to build and assemble myself again. During that period, “all-knowing aunts” constantly wished me to “get down to earth”, and I only took inspiration from that once in a while, the designer says.

Applying the Lego image to the construction of the garment, Karina sought innovative garment connections to create suits with authentic silhouettes and shapes that create the dynamic of the collection line. The collection consists of two parts – in the first clothing, Lego inspiration is depicted quite directly, then the details are abstracted to a large number of used clothing details, from which the images are created. The leitmotif of the collection became the shoes resembling Lego legs, which on the one hand represent stability when stuck to a plane, but actually when walking in them, the stability disappears.

The presentation of the collection was executed and every element was considered. The entire show was opened by a video created by the designer together with the Ukrainian team: cameraman Max Moylenko and performer Sonya Goldy. The artist created a one-note melody for the video material and voiced the poetry previously created by the designer. However, the video is only an introduction to the further direction of the presentation, which was accompanied by the music created by the designer and the dialogues prevailing in the music, which were imitated on stage by hired actors.

“I just took the soundtrack and voiced the dialogue I needed on it myself. I think that even a very professionally made product may not have value for me if another person creates it for me according to his vision. The connection with the whole and the world that I want to create on the podium would disappear. I like to be inspired by the truth, so I also think that household, amateur work can have much more charm and be more effective,” says Karina Panina.

The environment created at the location of the event also testifies to the inspiration from the unadorned truth. Even though the presentation took place in a filming studio in Tarande, the creator deliberately refused the bright lighting characteristic of television. The guests gathered in the hall were invited to take photos at an extraordinary photo wall made of used cardboard boxes. According to the designer herself, this decision is not only disruptive and changing the perception of the concept of glamour, but also creates sustainability.

Karina Panina’s debut not only impressed the guests, but also conveyed the designer’s creative journey and her sources of inspiration, revealed the search for stability and originality in fashion.
