Technology startup Kilo Health, which is managed by UAB Kilo grupė, continues to reduce the number of employees and announces a new manager. Tadas Burgaila, the company’s co-founder and chairman of the board, announced on Wednesday that he was laying off another 100 workers.

T. Burgaila himself announced this on his LinkedIn account.

“I want to take responsibility for just over 100 amazing talents who have recently lost their place at Kilo Health. Not that they are any less better than the rest. Primarily because the manager (me) wore rose-colored glasses for too long and made bad decisions. At least a few too many,” writes the founder of the technology startup.

He added that the company is still stable and profitable: “However, some decisions are necessary. Kilo Health is changing. From a business perspective, this is a normal optimization process.”

The number of employees has been decreasing for almost a year

Kilo Health began downsizing last July. At that time, the co-founder of the startup VŽ stated that he could not in the conditions of high growth to streamline all processes. Therefore, I had to say goodbye to some colleagues. The company also assured that it will soon increase to 800 employees.

However, in January this year, we continued to observe a decrease in the number of employees. VŽ wrote that in the controlling “Kilo group” the team decreased by 135 people during the year, to 168 employees. However, some employees were distributed through other companies. Therefore, after summing up the indicators of all “Kilo Health” companies in Lithuania, it was seen that in 2023 At the beginning, the company had 541 employees, in January it had 474.

Then the company explained to VŽ that it had implemented structural changes, and there was also a natural turnover of employees. Kilo Health representatives testified in January that the number of employees is not the only indicator of the company’s growth.

VŽ calculated the latest data provided by Sodra, according to which it can be seen that since the beginning of the year, when the company had 474 employees, now there are 379 of them, which is 95 people less.

The manager was changing

Last week, Kilo Health also announced a change in CEO of the corporate group.

“T. Burgaila, who has been the manager of Kilo Health until now, takes over the management of the Development Department and will continue to occupy the position of chairman of the board.” Žygymantas Surintas has been appointed as the new head of the company, who will be responsible for the management of the group of companies, product development and investments”, the company’s press release stated.

It is also noted that Ž. Surintas starts running from April 19.

According to the data of the Registry Center, T. Burgaila has not officially held the position of general director in any of the Kilo Health companies. He was the chairman of the board of UAB Kilo grupė. Lina Jasaitė still holds the position of general director in the controlling and many other Kilo Health companies.

When asked which legal unit’s head is changing, the company’s representatives confirmed to VŽ that T. Burgaila remains the chairman of the board, while L. Jasaitė remains the director of some of the company’s groups. However, he could not indicate which company becomes the official general director of Ž. Collected.

“We are currently in the process of formalizing the managers, and these processes take time. We will be able to provide a more extensive comment when all the processes have been implemented”, VŽ stated the company in a written response.

Kilo Health is one of the most well-known participants in the Lithuanian startup ecosystem. So far, the company claims to have grown without outside investment, despite being on the Financial Times and Deloitte’s lists of Europe’s fastest growing companies.

Kilo Health says it is developing more than 30 different products. Their portfolio is very broad – app-based nutrition and intermittent fasting, weight loss, chronic disease solutions, emotional health improvement, beauty and related products, etc.
