In 1995, the Lithuanian special creative society “Guboja” brought the “Colour Education” methodology to Lithuania from Holland, thanks to which Color Music orchestras began to be created in Lithuania, as well as in Šiauliai (in Šiauliai Municipality’s day care center “Goda”). A few years later, on the basis of these collectives, the “Gubaja” society formed the national “Color Music” orchestra (chief conductor of the orchestra Natalija Pugačienė from Šiauliai), in which about 60 persons with disabilities and music professionals from various cities play music every year. The orchestra successfully performs throughout the country and abroad (in Holland, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Latvia and elsewhere). Last year, this orchestra celebrated its 25th anniversary.
The activities of this orchestra were presented on May 7 at the concert “National Color Music Orchestra and Friends” held at the Šiauliai Cultural Center. This concert was attended by the national “Color Music” orchestra and the laureates and friends of the republican inclusive music competition-festival “Perliukai”: a woman from Šiauliai, a pianist, prof. Aleksandra Žvirblytė and jazz musician, saxophonist, winner of the Lithuanian National Prize, prof. Petros Vyšniauskas duet, popular singer Jurgis Brūzga, other performers.
The Lithuanian Special Creative Society “Guboja” (hereinafter – the “Guboja” Society) is an umbrella association of disabled persons and cultural and artistic activities that has been in existence for 32 years. Guboja Society is an associate member of VSA The International Organization On Arts And Disability (USA), which unites 52 countries of the world. Every year, in cooperation with professional artists and creators, about 5 thousand persons with and without disabilities from all over the country participate in the cultural, artistic and educational activities organized by the “Gubaja” society. Priority is given to children and young people with disabilities.
