A military school specialist who was stopped for drunk driving in Kaunas tried to avoid responsibility by bribing a policeman.
As reported by the Police Department, at noon on Wednesday, around 12:00 p.m. 10 min., on Pramonės avenue, a 46-year-old man, in order to avoid criminal liability for the violation of road traffic rules (driving the car while intoxicated (2.40 prom.)), gave a bribe of 50 euros to an officer of the Kaunas County Chief Police Commissariat.
The suspect, a specialist at the Divisional General Stasios Raštikis Lithuanian Military School, was taken into custody.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched into drunk driving and bribery.
A person who drives a motor vehicle while intoxicated, when the level of intoxication is 1.51 or more, shall be punished by a fine or arrest, or by imprisonment for up to one year.
Anyone who has given a bribe to a civil servant or a person equivalent to him or to a third person for the desired legal action or inaction of a civil servant or a person equivalent to him in the exercise of his authority shall be punished by a fine or restriction of liberty, or arrest, or deprivation of liberty for up to four years.
