In Kaunas – changes for drivers: from now on they will have to pay for electricity, some are outraged by this arrangement

--

Audrius from Kaunas has been driving an electric car for many years and would not change it for any other. The fact that he will no longer be able to charge his car for free in Kaunas does not scare him.

“I paid five euros and one cent and drove about 200 km for them,” says the man from Kaunas, mentioning that the electricity used cost sixteen kopecks (euro cents per kilowatt hour ed. past.).

According to him, it is important that there are no queues at charging stations and that there are more stations.

However, some electric car drivers are worried about charging for vehicle charging.

Previously, it was almost impossible to see empty charging stations for electric cars in the center of Kaunas. From now on, all charging points for electric cars in Kaunas are charged, so there are already plenty of empty places.

“The drivers of both pure electric cars and hybrid cars will be able to charge their car, but they will have to pay for the electricity,” said Martynas Matusevičius, head of the Transport and Traffic Management Department of the Kaunas City Municipality.

The cost of charging an electric car will depend on the time the vehicle is charged, so there is no fixed rate. “The price consists of the part of Ignitis, the part of electricity transmission and the set margin for servicing the company, which was selected through public procurement and offered a good price,” M. Matusevičius testified.

After checking the price of electric car charging in the middle of the day, it turned out that at that time it was even lower than what a household user would pay. Users can check the current prices in the app and choose when to charge the electric car. According to M. Matusevičius, there were moments when the price reached only 16 euro cents per kilowatt hour.

Some electric car drivers in Kaunas are not satisfied that the vehicle can only be charged with a special app, which is difficult for drivers to understand.

“It’s very difficult for me. Each time you have 20 minutes to play before you use that charge. For me, these charges in the city did not work at all”, complained one resident of Kaunas.

In Kaunas, it is planned to expand the network of charging stations to 106. Payment methods should also change.
