The Kaunas district court announced the verdict in the criminal case, in which a Kaunas man who had previously been convicted five times was found guilty of robbery and illegal deprivation of liberty.

It has been proven that in 2023 November 15 a person fraudulently entered the residential house of his close relatives and illegally deprived the freedom of one close relative who was in the house – he did not allow him to leave the house, took the house keys, phone, computer, smart watch and indicated that he would wait for another close relative who lives in the same house. When he returned, the accused also took away his freedom and personal belongings, threatened to blow up the house with a grenade, used physical violence, demanded to sell the house and hand over the money.

In the case, it was also established that the person used physical violence against one of the victims, hit the ceiling of the house with a chair, threatened with a large kitchen knife, and while pretending to kill the victim, demanded to open the safe. When the accused did not find money in the safe, he demanded the victim to show the balance of the bank account on the phone, and after connecting to the bank, he demanded a transfer of 2,000 euros. When this could not be done due to money transfer limits, the victims were instructed to go to the ATM together with the accused and withdraw the money.

It was established that while continuing the criminal acts and returning to the victim’s house, the accused tied the victims’ hands together, but after a couple of hours, leaving the house, he freed the victims.

During the court hearing, the accused admitted to having committed criminal acts and was sorry for them, but the fact that the person committed the criminal acts while under the influence of alcohol and being a recidivist was recognized as an aggravating circumstance.

in 2024 in April By the verdict of the Kaunas district court, the person was found guilty of robbery (Criminal Code, Article 180, d. 2) and unlawful deprivation of liberty (BK, Art. 146, d. 2). 3200 euros) fine.

The verdict is not final and can be appealed within 20 days.
