In the middle of May, the temperature will drop and will remain until the 20th day
According to Vilnius University’s Department of Hydrology and Climatology doc. Gintautas Stankūnavičius, the air circulation will change in the middle of the month and will come from the northwest. Therefore, a temperature drop of about 10 degrees can be expected days.
“Of course, the waters in the North Atlantic are colder, 7–10 degrees only on the shores of Europe, so imagine, such cool air, which came suddenly, could not warm up quickly“, he explains to the news portal tv3.lt.
And here, the head of the Department of Hydrology and Climatology of Vilnius University, A. Bukantis, claims that this cooling will continue until May 20.
Although the beginning of May will be somewhat drier compared to the norms, according to the climatologist, wetter weather will visit Lithuania in the middle of the month.
G. Stankūnavičius notes that the air flow will change already at the end of this week and will reach Lithuania from the northeast, so the summer night will also be replaced by lower temperatures.
“Now it’s 11 degrees, for example, in Vilnius at night, maybe 8 or 7 degrees elsewhere, but that’s normal in summer, not at the end of April,” he mentions.
According to A. Bukantis, such changeable weather could have been expected, because the month of April was also characterized by temperature fluctuations.
“May is inevitably changeable, since it is still absolute winter in Scandinavia and, one might say, the snow cover is still holding, that’s why air currents prevailed from there. They are responsible for such cooling. This is quite normal, there have been 6 or 8 degrees of frost in May,” notes A. Bukantis.
