in 1786 Fridrich Gotlib Hasenstein, a Lithuanian philologist who helped Ludvik Rėza prepare the 1816 edition of the Bible, was born in Būdviečiai, Lesser Lithuania. Died in 1830 Tilze (now Sovetsk).
in 1856 The Museum of Antiquities, the predecessor of the current Lithuanian National Museum, was opened in Vilnius.
in 1896 Composer, organist, choirmaster Domas Andriulis was born in Juodlauki, Kelmė district. Died in 1973
in 1992 Lithuania became a member of the International Monetary Fund.
in 1993 The Ignalina nuclear power plant has been accepted into the Association of Nuclear Power Plants.
in 2000 the Union of Modern Christian Democrats was established.
in 2000 The world’s largest club charity LIONS inaugurated the Alytus Dzūkija LIONS club. The club cooperates with the Alytus branch of the Lithuanian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired, helping children with various health disorders studying in special classes at Dzūkija School in Alytus. The club also implements several separate special support projects each year.
in 2002 Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkas and Latvian President Vaira Vyka-Freiberga were awarded honorary doctorate regalia of Vytautas the Great University in Kaunas.
in 2005 director Eimuntas Nekrošis was awarded the Herder Prize in Vienna, the capital of Austria. Since 1963, seven Herder Prizes have been awarded annually to artists and public figures from Eastern, Central and Southern European countries.
in 2008 president Valdas Adamkas was awarded the regalia of an honorary doctorate at Tallinn University.
in 2016 The library-museum of President Valdas Adamkaus has been opened in Kaunas, on S. Daukanta Street, in a historic building that housed the first Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania during the interwar period.
in 2019 composer, laureate of the National Culture and Art Prize Vytautas Laurušas died at the age of 89.
