A new beach will be opened in Vilnius – MadeinVilnius.lt

The rain and chill seem to be receding and warmer weather is coming to the country. Grinda, which maintains the capital’s beaches, is already preparing for this. Vacationers are already welcome on the beaches, and a new place for relaxation is being opened for the residents of Vilnius. And three, out of all Vilnius beaches, claim the blue flag. This is a prestigious rating on a European scale.

The LNK journalist will discuss this topic in more detail with Egidijus Steponavičius, head of the communication department of Grinda.

– When we drove to the beach of the green lakes, we saw the repair work. Will the beach not work this year?

– The beach will be open, although we currently have 13 in Vilnius, and we plan to open the 14th beach this year. Yes, Vilnius residents will definitely find a place to bathe. On the other hand, we are planning that our colleagues will make bicycle paths before the start of the swimming season, which means that the beach of Balsiai Lake will be accessible not only by cars, but also by bicycles.

– Three beaches in Vilnius are unique in that they received the blue flag. What does that blue flag mean?

– The Blue Flag is a certain international assessment of the quality of beaches recognized all over the world. Very soon, the commission will meet again and decide whether to grant us the blue flag or not.

– Do you divide the beaches into zones?

– We try to organize all the beaches in such a way that there are separate zones. For example, there are areas for more passive recreation, picnic areas where you can cook sausages or meat when you are hungry, and areas for sports fields.

– There were rumors that there is another beach waiting for Vilnius, so where?

– The beach will be in New Vilnius, on the Vilnius River. We will update the infrastructure, maybe install additional playgrounds.

– How do residents view new beaches, new recreation areas near water bodies?

– In recent years, together with the specialists of the Vilnius City Municipality, we have been trying to move the beaches a little further to the neighborhoods. Last year, we cleaned up the beach of Lake Dvarčioni, and there we received concerns from the local community about safety and things like that. However, it turns out that rescuers work there every day, during the summer, and supervisors look after the area at night. At the end of the season, we received thanks from the community for making everything happen very nicely and very neatly.

– This year, you will be choosing a rescue team again. What are the requirements for them?

– The most important thing is that people are not afraid of water, know how to swim, communication with people is very important, because the job of rescuers is not only to save a person who has fallen into the water, but also to be able to do that provincial job. We plan to take on about 50 additional rescuers.
