And indeed, back in October, it was promised that work would start in the spring, but so far nothing has happened.
“Delfi” appealed to the municipality with the question why the repair of the bridge keeps being postponed. Gabrielius Grabinskas, the municipality’s media relations specialist, explains that it was necessary to perform additional calculations, but the work should start soon.
“During the calculations of the bearing capacity of the bridge, it was found that the bearing capacity of the middle beams does not meet the norms, therefore it is necessary to carry out additional calculations and design works. However, the preparation of the project should be completed before the summer, the work is planned to start this year and be completed next year,” he told Delfi.
The Valakampii bridge was built more than 50 years ago – in 1972. During the examination carried out in 2021, it became clear that the bridge needs repair, its overlay needs to be strengthened. It was then decided that the weight of vehicles traveling on the bridge would be limited until repairs were made. The first lane was for public transport only.
Previously, the bridge was planned to be repaired by the end of 2022.
