Violence in the Kaunas district school: a ten-year-old’s nose was broken

On Wednesday, the Kaunas district court announced the verdict for the teenager who was violent at school.

Tautvilė Merkevičiūtė, assistant to the president of the court for media and public relations, told the kauno.diena.lt portal that, according to the case data, the minor defendant intentionally punched the victim in the face once in the school corridor, thus causing him a minor health disorder.

The media reported that the victim suffered a broken nose.

On the day of the incident, he had a pain in his left side, and while leaving the class, a classmate grabbed him and pushed him, because of which he got upset and hit him in the nose when he approached him.

“When questioned, the accused fully admitted his guilt, regretted it and explained that on the day of the incident, he had pain in his left side, and while leaving the class, a classmate grabbed him and pushed him, as a result of which he got upset and hit him in the nose when he approached him. The court, while announcing the verdict, noted the fact that the accused confessed to having committed the act incriminated against him and sincerely regrets it, is a minor, has not been convicted, has not been punished by administrative procedure, understood his inappropriate behavior and apologized to the victim and his parents”, said T. Merkevičiūtė about the incident in one of Kaunas district schools.

Yesterday’s sentence acquitted the accused of criminal responsibility, he was given a warning explaining that he will not be able to be acquitted of criminal responsibility if he commits a new criminal act. The victim’s civil claim for compensation of 1,500 euros in non-pecuniary damage was partially satisfied – 1,200 euros in non-pecuniary damage was awarded.

The verdict is not final and can be appealed within 20 days.
