Last week, Žanas Andrijūnas, who was beaten by eight masked assailants in a cafe with his uncle, a close friend of the leader of the “Agurkinių” gang, Saulius Velečka-Agurkas, Ryčias Sadauskas, and two other men, asked for the return of his sneakers, shorts and blouse, which were taken as evidence by law enforcement officers for the purposes of the investigation after the attack. .

On Wednesday, the court rejected this request.

“In the case under consideration, it was established that the victim was asked to return the items: shorts, t-shirts and sports shoes – these are items that are important for the investigation and investigation of the criminal act, the victim wore them during the accused criminal acts, and according to the specialist’s conclusions, traces of the acts were found on them.

Taking this into account, the court decides to reject the victim’s request for the return of the items at this stage of the proceedings, informing the victim that the issue of the return of the items will be resolved by the court’s final act”, states the court’s motivation sent to the portal lrytas.lt by Tautvilė Merkevičiūtė, assistant to the chairman of the Kaunas district court.

Check the status of the victims

Two other mafia-related figures in this case asked not to be considered victims.

The request of R. Sadauskas, who was previously convicted of car theft, to revoke the victim status granted to him, was rejected at the beginning of April.

Last week, the second victim sought the same – Tadas Petrošius, a member of the “Agurkinių” group, who had several dealings with the law enforcement. His request was also denied on Wednesday.

Ž. Andrijūnas is perhaps the only participant in the case who is not associated with the Kaunas gangs – most of the accused and victims belong to the city’s criminal world. He also tried unsuccessfully to get rid of the victim status.

They started playing hide and seek

Egidijus Smailys, the leader of the “Smailių” gang, who was convicted 7 times and was involved in two murder cases, was recognized as the fourth victim of the attack on Laisvės avenue.

The latter did not even appear at four court hearings, which had to be postponed – the police officers were obliged to bring E. Smailis, although usually the courts are forced to take such measures not for the victims, but for the accused.

During the process, another unusual request was received – one of the defendants, 31-year-old Lukas Shcherbinskas, who has been convicted 11 times, and who is only allowed to leave the house in exceptional cases, a few weeks ago asked to be allowed to participate in his girlfriend’s 30th birthday party organized at the Birštonas SPA center on April 20. The court took this into account and adjusted the conditions of the remand, granting this request.

The bushido champion is also on trial

After many hiccups, when the trial finally began, the seven defendants (two more, including the mastermind of the attack, are still being sought) agreed to testify only after questioning other participants in the case.

The next hearing should take place on April 30 – it is planned to interview witnesses.

The defendants are awaiting sentencing at large, under intensive supervision while wearing electronic collars and other preventive measures.

In addition to L. Shcherbinskas, 39-year-old Vitaliis Zakrževskis, 37-year-old Edgar Rezajevs, 30-year-old Rokis Sipavičiis, 28-year-old former European K-1 amateur bushido champion Juozs Minkevičiis, 27-year-old Tadus Muchinskas and 26-year-old Karolis Kavaliauskas have been charged with the attack in the center of Kaunas. Most of them are convicted of serious crimes.

The gang wars continue

The mafiosi who were beaten were reluctant to open up to the law enforcement about the circumstances of the attack – it seems that they adhere to the usual “vows of silence” in the criminal world.

It is believed that the attack on Laisvė avenue was carried out in revenge against R. Sadauskas for previous disagreements.

According to criminologists, the Kaunas gang wars may ignite this attack even more – a house in the Kaunas district, which may belong to a close relative of one of the suspected attackers, has already been set on fire.

The actors of the criminal world will probably continue to explain the relationship themselves, and the law enforcement officers will claim that they have no claims against anyone.
