Thursday, April 4, 5 p.m. Presentation of the exhibition “There were times when we used to joke: from Juoz Olinard Penčyla to Romuald Pachėsa… and some more” at the Marijampole Regional Museum (Vytauto St. 29) and a meeting with artists and journalists.

We invite humor lovers, readers of the legendary “Shluotas”, fans of Marijampoli cartoonist Olinard Penčyla and everyone who remembers the historical turkey and republican exhibitions of humorous photographs in Kapsuk at the time, to the opening of a fun exhibition. This is the history of humor exhibitions, prints and celebrations and meeting their organizers and participants.

Journalists and artists promise to participate in the meeting and share their memories: Domas Šniukas, author of the book about Juoz Olinardas Penčylas; Povilas Sigitas Krivickas, one of the organizers of the first humor exhibition in Marijampole; the editor of the satire and humor magazine Šluota, cartoonist Jonas Lenkutis; painter Jonas Varnas, organizer and participant of caricature exhibitions; painter-caricaturist Kęstutis Šiaulytis, former art editor of “Šluotas”; journalist Juozas Bulota… The first humor exhibition in Marijampolė took place in 1933.
