61 percent Residents of the Grigiškii borough supported the abolition and annexation of the villages of Salai and Neravai to the Vilnius city municipality.

Based on the survey data, a corresponding decision of the Vilnius City Municipality Council will be prepared, after its adoption, the data will be transferred to the Government. Its decision will remove the names of rural areas from the register.

“Neither street or territory maintenance nor social, educational or other services received by residents will change as a result. These areas cannot be called rural for a long time, as they have been intensively developed over the past twenty years. Probably, many people living here don’t even know that somewhere in the registers the name of the once-existing village still remains”, said Gaiva Auglienė, head of the Land Management and GIS sub-department of the Vilnius City Municipality.

In the address register, there are 92 villages and single-seated villages in the territory of the Vilnius city municipality, such as Pilaitės, Pashilaičių, Tarandės, Mažijųi Gulbinės and others. There are 15 such rural residential areas in the Pilaitė ward alone.

These areas were connected to the territory of the city of Vilnius in 1995-1996. In the internal databases of the Address Register of the Register Center, they remained as rural residential areas with their names, because they were not canceled and deregistered in accordance with the law.
