The officers found it in Kaunas on Tuesday night a missing nine-year-old girl who has been wanted since Sunday. “Agota is healthy, alive and will return home,” Kaunas officials representative Odeta Vaitkevičienė told BNS.
As Police Commissioner General Renats Požėla later said at a press conference on Wednesday night, the suspected abductor of the girl was arrested, and nine-year-old Agota herself was taken to Kaunas clinics.
“The arrest itself took place in an array of garages, not far from the place of abduction. The arrest was made by “Aro” officers,” said the commander of the officers.
R. Požėla said that the girl “is fluent, she speaks”, but she suffered some injuries, so the doctors are examining her: “The doctors are working, her parents are with her”.
As Kaunas police chief Mindaugas Baršys pointed out, the girl was allegedly kidnapped by a 42-year-old man. The authorities will continue to investigate whether this is the only such crime committed by this person.
According to R. Požela, the crime was sufficiently qualified, the suspect prepared for it carefully: “Some things surprised us, let’s say so.”
“An unconvicted person, but punished more than once,” M. Baršys described the kidnapper.
According to officials, the abduction was carefully prepared – the furnishings of the garage where the girl was found, as well as other details, surprised even forensic experts with many years of experience.
According to R. Požela, the crime was sufficiently qualified, the suspect prepared for it carefully: “Some things surprised us, let’s say so.”
“The garage didn’t look exactly as we imagine it for car storage,” M. Baršys said in turn. He confirmed that the garage was equipped with sound insulation – it is believed that it was prepared for holding hostages.
The suspect has been detained for two days, but at the end of this period, the court will probably go to court for the order of detention.
Officials have not yet commented on what the motives for the crime were.
The girl, born in 2014, went missing when on Sunday around 4:30 p.m. from his house in Kaunas, on Trešnii track, he went to the public transport stop and was getting ready to go to the store. She did not go to it.
The search was carried out by hundreds of police officers, and volunteers from all over Lithuania joined their help.
