Retail trade in the euro area rose by 0.8% in March compared to the previous month, adjusted for seasonality, according to data published by Eurostat.

This was the fastest growth since 2022. of September, reflecting a certain resistance of European consumers to expensive borrowing and the continuing uncertainty of the economic outlook.

Trade in food products, beverages and tobacco production increased by 1.2%, the volume of trade in non-food goods, excluding fuel, did not change, and fuel increased by 2%.

Eurozone retail sales rose 0.7% on a calendar-adjusted basis in March from the same month last year, ending a 17-month period of decline.

Across the EU, retail sales grew by 1.2% month-on-month and 2% year-on-year.
