The international green energy company “Ignitis renewables” transports large parts of wind power plants from the port of Klaipėda to the Kelme district, where it is developing the largest park of onshore wind power plants in the Baltic countries. The wind farms will be built this year, and they will start generating electricity in 2025.

The blades and nacelles of the wind power plants travel to the future wind power park on the highway and the roads of Klaipėda, Raseiniai and Kelmė districts, where other necessary infrastructure installation works are already in full swing: laying cables, approaches, concreting power plant foundations.

Cargo of unusual size is transported from the port of Klaipėda at night in order to avoid traffic disturbances and inconvenience to local residents.

“The project implemented in the Kelmė district will allow a significant increase in the production of green energy and meet the ever-increasing demand for it in the region. In this way, we contribute to Lithuania’s energy security and the aspiration to reduce the factors influencing climate change, we create the conditions to abandon the use of fossil fuels and reduce pollution”, says Paulius Kalmantas, the press representative of “Ignitis renewables”.

The parts of the wind power plants were delivered to the port of Klaipėda by their manufacturer Nordex. Power plant parts will be transported by land roads until 2024. the end

Each part of the wind farms is between 50 and more than 80 meters long, requiring special transport and road infrastructure preparation. For this reason, the company constantly invests in the infrastructure of the municipalities through which it transports the large-sized cargo needed for the wind park, its improvement and other works.

The wind park is being developed by Ignitis renewables in two stages, and a total of 44 turbines will be erected there. They will be tested in the first half of next year, and production is expected to start in the second half of 2025. The total power of the park will reach 300 megawatts (MW), and the electricity produced by it will be enough to supply 250 thousand people. households in Lithuania.

Ignitis renewables operates in three Baltic countries and Poland, where it implements energy production projects from renewable sources (wind, solar). Currently, the company manages 4 wind parks in Lithuania – in Jurbarka, Kretinga, Tauragė and Mažeikiai districts. The wind farm in the Kelmė region is the largest onshore wind farm of Ignitis renewables, which is a significant project in increasing the company’s portfolio of wind farm projects in Lithuania and green energy production capacity.

The company is constantly increasing the production of green energy and by 2030 plans to achieve 4-5 gigawatts (GW) of installed capacity from renewable sources.
