Named the brands of cars with the most kilometers: is yours above average?

More rolled – more unreliable

Although a vehicle with high mileage may cost less, it is not uncommon for the savings to be spent on repairs. Some of the components of such a car may be more severely worn and this increases the probability of malfunctions.

Mileage is a factor that tells a lot about a car’s condition and value, but odometer readings are falsified in the used car market, artificially inflating the price of vehicles. This problem creates an environment of unfair competition.

“Using a car with a higher than declared mileage is like a kind of lottery. It is difficult to predict when something will fail. Vehicles with original mileage are more valuable than those with reduced odometer readings. Such cars usually become unattractive on the market and it is difficult to sell them,” says Matas Buzelis, an expert on the car market and head of communication at carVertical.

Why do some cars have higher mileage?

The highest average mileage between 2008 Volvo (277,446 km) had the car brands manufactured and checked on the “carVertical” platform in Lithuania. The other brands valued by domestic drivers are Audi (262,373 km) and Škoda (256,625 km).

Among 10-year-old vehicles, the highest recorded mileage of Škoda brand cars is an average of 229,454 km. 200 thousand Volvo (208,957 km) and Audi (201,301 km) also exceed the mileage limit. “Skoda” also leads among 2018 of manufactured cars – 154,628 km. Immediately behind the models of this Czech manufacturer are Opel with 151,722 km and Renault with 140,703 km.

Higher class cars are extremely popular in countries with developed highway infrastructure. In countries like Germany, drivers are used to traveling long distances every day. They often choose cars suitable for long trips, such as Škoda, Volkswagen or more luxurious Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Swedish Volvo. More luxurious models are equipped with more comfort equipment and this has a big impact when choosing a vehicle in which you will spend a large part of your time.

Lower mileage means higher price

Compared to 2008 of cars produced, Peugeot had the lowest average mileage at 190,001 km, Nissan at 194,146 km and Toyota at 204,202 km. Five years later, the trio of leaders changed, because in comparison to 2013 mileage of manufactured vehicles, Nissan took first place (133,510 km), Renault came in second (158,261 km), and Citroen (160,026 km) came in third.

Looking at 5-year-old car data, it turned out that Mazda has the lowest mileage at 44,818 km, Nissan at 49,965 km and BMW at 75,221 km.

If the mileage of the car being driven is well above the average mileage of vehicles of that brand, drivers could consider selling the car. High-mileage models are often more trouble than good for owners – even if you can’t afford the same model that’s a few years newer or with lower mileage, carVertical experts suggest you consider buying alternative models if it would help you significantly reduce costs in the long run.
