It was not possible to win the gold – the Lithuanian ice hockey players lost to the Ukrainians in the decisive battle

In the fight for gold, the Lithuanians recognized the superiority of the Ukrainian national team 1:4 (0:1, 0:1 1:2).

The Ukrainians took the lead in the 10th minute of the match. Taking advantage of the quantitative advantage, the Ukrainians pressed the Lithuanians and Danilas Trakhtas scored a goal with a great shot.

At the end of the first half, the Lithuanians began to attack the opponents a little more actively, but they did not find success and after the first 20 minutes they trailed 0:1.

In the middle of the second half, the Ukrainians scored their second goal. Ivan Sysak broke through on the left side and made a pass towards the goal, where D.Trakht directed the puck into the goal net with a wonderful touch.

In the third quarter, the guests from Ukraine gained a very important advantage, when Andrejus Deniskina scored with an accurate shot.

However, the Lithuanians still managed to soften the result. With a quantitative advantage, Eimantas Noreika scored a goal after receiving a pass near the opponent’s goal and outsmarting the goalkeeper.

After starting the game, the Lithuanians replaced the goalkeeper with a field player, but our team lost the puck and Aleksanderis Peresunko scored a goal.

Having won the gold, the Ukrainians also earned the right to compete in the Division I Group A World Championship next year.

The Ukrainians went into the match top of the group, having scored 27 goals and conceded just 1 in their first four matches.

Meanwhile, the Lithuanians had 15 accurate shots and 3 missed goals.

The Lithuanian national team has already triumphed once in Group B of Division I of the World Championship. Our people did this in 2018.
