The spectacular Greek islands will surprise even the most picky travel gourmands: which ones to choose? | Life

--

“Greece is not just a mainland – its uniqueness is created by hundreds of islands, each of which stands out with its own character, cuisine and history. From Zakynthos, Evia and other large islands to the uniquely peaceful island of Thasos – everyone will find a holiday that suits them in Greece,” says Daiva Strumskienė, travel expert of Itaka, in a press release.

Amazing Zakynthos – for Instagram shots

Sun, wind, sea and unique vacation shots – that’s what the bright island of Zakynthos will definitely reward you with. Sandy bays, washed by turquoise water, incredible rocks and a rich underwater world adorn this island.

According to D. Strumskienė, Italian culture is particularly felt on the island – Zakynthos was ruled by the Venetians for several centuries, so the ports here smell of the synthesis of Italy and Greece.

“Although once in Southern Europe, Zakynthos will also recognize the buildings inspired by the history of Venice. However, the local population has preserved both the Greek language and faith, so this island will appeal to those who love the Mediterranean lifestyle,” says the travel expert.

Zakynthos will also be loved by those who are thirsty for Instagram shots, which they will definitely collect during their next vacation here. Keri Lighthouse, Mizithres and Navajo beaches, Potamitis the windmill is just some of the places worth capturing on camera.

However, according to D.Strumskienė, when you visit here, you won’t even have to try too hard to look for unique views – they are waiting for you practically around every corner of the island: “Finally, every random beach you see during your excursions will give you unique views that are worth sharing with all your friends.”

For those who want peace, the emerald-charming Tas

For those looking for a quality and quieter vacation, a travel expert advises them to discover the emerald-colored island of Thasos. Known as the green pearl of the Aegean, the island welcomes travelers with verdant pines, olive groves and century-old trees growing at the foot of the mountains.

“The island of Thasos is the northernmost of the Greek islands. It is loved by travelers who value Greek authenticity, history, mythology and enjoy harmony with nature. The island is accessible by ferry from mainland Greece, so you won’t encounter any passing planes or heavy tourist traffic. All that remains is to enjoy the pure and clean nature and cozy rest”, says D. Strumskienė.

Lovers of exceptional nature will appreciate the postcard-worthy beaches of Thasos – they are also called the most beautiful beaches in all of Greece. Marmur Beach is especially noteworthy.

“The island of Tasos is rich in marble. For this reason, the island has one unique beach where sand is mixed with small marble pebbles. Therefore, the entire coast is white, and the water, due to the light bottom, looks azure, as if in the tropics. However, it is advisable to enjoy this beauty responsibly – it is strictly forbidden to bring home pebbles from this beach for yourself,” the travel expert emphasizes.

Unique Evija – for those who don’t get stuck in one place

At that time, Evia, the second largest and most populous Greek island, is famous for providing tourists with an authentic Greek experience. On this island, the locals go about their daily business, live in a normal rhythm, and the restaurants, bars and shops fit the Greek way of life. Therefore, vacationers who come here experience authentic country life.

According to D.Strumskienė, the island of Evia, although it is easily accessible by car, has not yet been fully discovered by tourists, and the Greeks themselves often go to rest in this corner of paradise.

“Mountainous regions, fertile plains, dense forests and beautiful beaches that are some of the best in the country, this island has it all. Travelers choose Evia to escape the hustle and bustle of tourists and get a real taste of local culture. However, if peace is boring, vibrant Greece is just across the bridge,” says travel expert D. Strumskienė.

For those who like a quiet vacation by the sea, the island can offer a lot of beaches, some of which cannot even be seen on the map, while others stretch for kilometers.

The more adventurous can try gorge walking, which is abundant in South Evia and on its eastern coast, as well as cycling or horse riding. The Aegean Sea that washes the island is also full of adventures, where it is fun to dive and sail, and if you are thirsty for more intense sensations, you can try kitesurfing and enjoy the waves that wash the coast of Evia.
