Defense Express writes that the attack on the military airport, which initially went largely unnoticed in the news flow, could have been very painful for the Russians.
Based on satellite photos and videos from the scene that appeared on social media, it is believed that the air traffic control center building and warehouse were destroyed. It contained many UMPK modular devices.
The UMPK is a modular attachment for use with unguided aerial bombs such as the FAB-250 and FAB-500. This module effectively turns normal free-fall bombs into precision-guided munitions, significantly increasing their range to several kilometers.
When launched from an aircraft, the module deploys its wings and guides the bomb to pre-specified coordinates using an integrated inertial system with GPS correction, according to Defense Blog.
Ukraine’s security service not only admitted to carrying out the attack, but also added that the Russians kept “dozens of military planes, radar and electronic warfare equipment” at the military airport.
Defense Express points out that Su-34 tactical bombers, which are considered the backbone of Russian aviation, were stationed at the airport. Su-27, MiG-29 fighters could also be there. However, it is unclear whether the Russians lost any aircraft.
