10:03 | Kremlin’s hybrid attack: trying to disrupt NATO’s military logistics from Kaliningrad

The Financial Times reported on Baltic ministers warning that Russia was responsible for recent GPS jamming incidents that disrupted commercial navigation signals and forced two Finnair flights from Helsinki to Tartu to turn back.

As the US Institute for the Study of War (ISW) announces in its latest report, the Kremlin is conducting a hybrid campaign directly against NATO countries – using GPS jamming and trying to undermine military logistics on the territory of the Alliance countries.

ISW analysts from 2023 at the end of December notices massive GPS malfunctions in Poland and the Baltic States. Recent cases of jamming of aircraft navigation signals amount to attempts to influence diplomats and attacks using nerve agents. In their opinion, such a hybrid campaign will continue.

The Financial Times believes there are three sources of disruption: one in Kaliningrad, others in Estonia and Finland, and a third operating further north, affecting the northern territories of Norway and Finland. One of the GPS jammers blocking Estonian flights is believed to be located in Russia, between St. Petersburg and Narva.

The largest NATO exercise since the Cold War has angered Russia

09:25 | Ukrainian representative: Russia appears to have hit Odesa with an Iskander missile with a cluster bomb

The Iskander missile of the Russian invasion force with a cluster warhead hit the densely populated coastal area of Odessa.

This was stated by the head of the Strategic Communications Center of the Southern Defense Forces, Dmytro Pletenchuk, who spoke on the air of the national telethon, commenting on the deadly strike on Monday afternoon.

“All the details are being clarified. It is tentatively believed to be an Iskander with a cluster charge, but until all the research is done I can’t confirm that for sure. However, most of the holes made in the walls of the buildings contained impactors and the detonation was from the air,” he said.

According to D. Pletenchuk, the used weapon is intended for manpower reserves.

“However, for the Russians, the residents of Odessa, who walk along the health paths, are apparently a living military force. They have revealed themselves as real terrorists,” he added.

09:02 | Russian forces are preparing for a new offensive: US analysts have indicated two possible directions

In their latest report, analysts at the US Institute for the Study of War (ISW) state that Russian forces have several tactical options for a future offensive near Avdiyivka, but it is not yet clear where they will focus their efforts in the near future.

According to ISW analysts, the stabilization of Russian positions northwest of Avdiyivka gives Russian commanders the opportunity to choose:

  • or to continue moving west to the established operational objective near Pokrovsk;
  • or attempt to move north and conduct possible additional offensive operations around Chasiv Yar.

About 20-25 thousand Russian troops are trying to storm Chasiv Yar and settlements on the outskirts of the city, Ukraine announced exactly a week ago.

Chasiv Yar is about 10 km west of Bakhmut and 50 km north of Avdiyivka, towns in the Donetsk Oblast that Russia captured in May 2023 and February 2024, respectively.

Some time ago, ISW analysts announced that a Russian attack west of Avdiyivka could give the Russians tactical advantages. And Russia’s offensive operation to capture Chasiv Yar gives Russian forces immediate prospects for a significant operational advance.
