He should speak at a press conference at noon local time (14:00 Lithuanian time).

If he were to resign, parliament would have 28 days to elect a new first minister.

The national broadcaster BBC, The Times and other publications said the leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP) was on the verge of quitting after a tense few days.

The 39-year-old politician ended the SNP’s ruling coalition with the Scottish Greens in the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh last week.

His government has previously abandoned ambitious targets for a transition to net-zero carbon emissions, angering the Greens.

The opposition Scottish Conservative Party has proposed a vote of no confidence in Yousaf, which is expected to take place as early as Wednesday.

Scottish Labor is proposing another vote of no confidence in his government.

Mr Yousaf is by no means certain to win, with the Tories, Labor and the Lib Dems all saying they will vote against him.

The Greens also repeatedly refused to support him during the vote, so he had to seek the support of the only lawmaker from the Alba party.

Ash Regan, a member of the “Alba” party, a former SNP colleague of H. Yousaf, ran together with him in the March 2023 elections for the post of the new leader of Scotland, who was supposed to replace Nicola Sturgeon.

Reestablished in 1999, the Scottish Parliament has limited powers to set policy in areas such as health, education, transport and the environment.

The United Kingdom’s government in London retains powers to deal with country-wide issues such as defense and foreign policy.
