On March 29, the “Adat” movement, which advocates the independence of the Chechen state, reported that the man was tortured to death, writes unian.net.

According to them, A. Uspanov was waiting at the bus stop when masked people attacked him. He began to resist because he did not understand who they were.

“These were law enforcement officers from Moscow and they arrested him on suspicion of complicity in a terrorist attack. During the interrogation, the Russian security forces used torture against the Chechen, which he could not survive, and more specifically, his ribs and spine were broken, asphyxiation marks were found on his body, and hematomas spread,” the report reads.

The man’s mother, Taisa Uspanova, told the agency that her son called his wife after his arrest and assured her that the security forces “have nothing against him.” He later asked her to come over, saying he was rude to the policeman.

The woman arrived two hours later, but was told by the department that her husband was gone. When she said she had spoken to him on the phone recently, she was told: “You did, but now you won’t.”

A. Uspanov’s mother said that now she “relies on the laws and justice of the Russian Federation.”
