LKL admitted that a foul should have been called against Shaquille Keith, and on another attack, the same Keith should have been given a technical foul for an illegal action when an opponent threw the ball out of bounds.

April 2 “CBet” of Jonava and “Šiaulių” of Šiauliai met each other. In a heated battle, the home team celebrated an 81:80 victory.

After the match, the referee department of the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) analyzed the work of the basketball referees who refereed this match and concluded that the mistakes of the referees at the end of the fourth quarter had a significant impact on the outcome of the match.

In the fourth quarter of the match, with 9 seconds left to play, Šiauliai team player Shaquille Keith intercepts the ball and rushes towards the opponent’s basket. Jonava’s Ryan Larson, who is chasing him, tries to clear the ball, but it goes through Keith’s hands. The referee does not catch up with the players and does not take a suitable position from which he could see the illegal action of the Jonava player.

In this situation, the referee made a mistake by not calling a foul on the CBet defender.

Episode no. 1:

Jonava’s player Tauras Jogėla is preparing to throw the ball in from the sideline in his team’s offensive zone. The referee warns the defending player of the “Šiauliai” team, Keith, not to cross the sideline and not stick any part of his body outside the field, as this, in the last two minutes of the 4th quarter, is a technical foul.

After this warning, when Jogėla is already trying to throw the ball into the field, Keith, in defense, hits the sideline with his right foot.

In this situation, the referee made a mistake by not recording a violation by the Šiauliai player, for which a technical foul should have been awarded.

Episode no. 2:

A 3-week suspension from refereeing in the LKL is imposed on a referee who made a mistake at a decisive moment in accordance with the procedure established in the regulations of the LKL.
