In the Šiauliai region, border guards arrested a man from Vilnius who was transporting contraband cigarettes. The man, who has been caught by law enforcement officials several times, faces criminal responsibility for this offense again – a fine or imprisonment for up to four years.

On Monday afternoon, in the town of Ginkūnai (Šiauliai district), border guards of the Criminal Intelligence Department of the Coast Guard Border Squad of VSAT and the Palanga border checkpoint, together with Šiauliai police officers, stopped to check a Mercedes-Benz E220 CDI. The vehicle, registered in Lithuania, was driven by a 38-year-old man from Vilnius. VSAT officers already had knowledge that this car could be transporting illegal cargo.

While inspecting the car, the border guards found 2.5 thousand in its trunk. packs of “Prince Red” cigarettes without excise marks.

After the questioning, the detainee was released, after being given a pre-trial detention – a written promise not to leave.

Officials of the Pre-Trial Investigation Department of the Criminal Investigation Board of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Criminal Investigation Department have started a pre-trial investigation led by the prosecutor of the Criminal Prosecution Department of the Šiauliai District Prosecutor’s Office. The law provides for a fine or imprisonment of up to four years for such a criminal act.

The man from Vilnius who transported contraband cigarettes to law enforcement officers is well-known and has been sentenced to imprisonment several times. And he was also caught in 2022 for transporting excise goods in violation of the established procedure. with 2 thousand packs of contraband cigarettes. For this, he was fined 5,200 euros.
