Delfi declares May the month of inclusion: even more attention to people with disabilities

--

An opportunity to test yourself

The last month of spring Delphi will organize various lectures, which will further open doors for employees to the everyday life of people with disabilities and raise important issues. Also, the company will participate in the DOUday initiative for the first time and invite people with disabilities to become one Delphi part of the team.

This DOUday job shadowing initiative has been running across Europe for over 15 years. Various companies and organizations open their doors to people with disabilities – they invite them to try new professions and work positions. This year, he decided to join them Delphi.

The head of the administration, Sandra Meškauskaitė-Stepšienė, says that the decision to become more actively involved in inclusion topics was born a few years ago.

“Our organization has always been famous for tolerance, employees do not discriminate against each other, regardless of gender, age, disability, etc. So a year and a half ago, we set a goal to show special attention to people with disabilities. Although our team is open to accepting such persons, it is still difficult for them to find their place in the general labor market. This is what led to the birth of the “(In)visible” initiative”, the interviewer emphasized.

In the end, according to the woman, thoughts began to pop into their heads, how the employees themselves could contribute to solving problems and helping people with disabilities.

“In our strategy, we have already foreseen what percentage of people with disabilities we will accept into the collective in the future”, emphasized S. Meškauskaitė-Stepšienė.

According to her, “DOUday” provides an opportunity for employees of companies or organizations to personally touch the lives and thoughts of people with disabilities.

“It can even be a great proof that working with a colleague with a certain disability is not difficult,” said S. Meškauskaitė-Stepšienė.

People with disabilities will practice on May 23 Delphi. S. Meškauskaitė-Stepšienė is intrigued that one person, if he likes the work and his abilities are suitable, will be able to continue the work.

A meeting with humorless guests

On Wednesday Delphi the studio was visited by Irma Jokšytė-Stanevičienė and Aistė Krušinskaitė, who introduced her team to the rules of etiquette that will help when communicating with disabled people in everyday life.

According to Irma, physical differences can create very high barriers when it comes to social circle, which people with disabilities try to avoid as much as possible.

“Our wishes, aspirations, desires are very similar, only sometimes we have to adapt to a body that functions differently,” said a woman who has been blind since childhood.

She revealed how one should behave when meeting a person who perceives the world differently, and Aistė shared tips on how to communicate with people with mobility disabilities. A. Krušinskaitė, who has a sense of humor, openly told how she feels when people start asking what happened to her. The woman does not hide that sometimes she intrigues those who ask by telling a fictional story of a disaster.
