Almost every second Vilnius resident would like an underground railway station at Vilnius airport – MadeinVilnius.lt

Vilnius Airport can boast that it is one of the few objects in Vilnius that is being expanded, repaired and built. Recently, information appeared that a new railway station could be established at the Vilnius airport. This would be the first railway station of its kind in Lithuania. We asked Vilnius residents if they would like such a station.

The majority, 48 percent. (722 votes) believes that an underground railway station at Vilnius airport is necessary. However, another 23 percent did not agree with them. of respondents (344 votes) who found such a decision unnecessary.

“Will the trains here be full of passengers?” Only expenses, profit only for construction companies”, the readers write.

Another 17 percent (262 votes), believes that it is better to arrange and better adapt the train stop that is already nearby to the airport. 12 percent (174 votes) did not have an opinion on this issue.

The establishment of a new railway station under the Vilnius airport was also indicated. It is said that by the 2030s, it is intended to build an underground station of the European railway “Rail Baltica” under the Vilnius airport.

According to the submitted plan for the development of the engineering infrastructure of the Kaunas-Vilnius railway line of the “Rail Baltica” project, it is expected that the European gauge will also be installed between the Kaunas and Vilnius railway stations. In addition, it is planned to reconstruct the existing railway section from the Vilnius railway station to the airport.

The plan calls for the rail track to reverse at the airport, go underground at the Park Inn, and run underground all the way to the airport. A new underground railway station would be built under the site, which is located by the stairs of the old terminal.
