He posted a photo on Instagram with the caption, “If we come back,” with the word “if” crossed out and replaced with “when.”

“A phrase we kept correcting in conversations with each other in captivity.

Thank you all for the congratulations and words of support,” the soldier wrote.

“For four months, I was always sure that the Ukrainians did not forget us and shouted about us to the whole world. Even without communication and knowledge, I felt the support of the bravest, best people in the world.

I am happy that I can finally hug my closest relatives, and I thank everyone who made this exchange possible,” said D. Kozackis.

The most painful thing is that many of the brothers will never see their families again after the Russian terrorist attack in Olenivka, where the Mariupol defenders were imprisoned, he added.

D. Kozackis called for efforts to make those who remained in captivity return home in the near future.

“Only then will I be completely happy. I am at home – in Ukraine! Let’s continue the fight,” he concluded.

Previously, the photo of “Orest” and “Bird” (Kateryna Polišchuk) was published by his sister Dasha.

D. Kozackis together with his comrades defended Mariupol, later he was surrounded in the factory “Azovstal”, from which he was captured.

He is the author of legendary videos and photos from Azovstal, which received awards in world photo contests.

A blow to Putin

In a major prisoner swap on September 21, Ukraine handed over to Russia Viktor Medvedchuk, a pro-Russian oligarch and politician linked to President Vladimir Putin, and more than 50 other Russian prisoners.

In exchange, they recovered more than 200 soldiers, including the commander of the Azov regiment, which defended Mariupol and Azovstal for a long time, Denys Prokopenko-Redis, his deputy Sviatoslav Palamar-Kalyn, Azov senior officer Oleh Khomenko, commander of the 36th separate marine brigade Serhijs Volynskis-Volyns and the commander of the 12th brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine Denys Shlehs.

This exchange can be a serious blow to V. Putin, because until now the biggest supporters of the Russian war could not even think that D. Prokopenka would be exchanged, and the separatist republics were publicly preparing for the “Azov” military tribunal.

Ukrainian forces refused to surrender at the Azovstal plant for a long time despite being short on ammunition and supplies and outnumbered by Russian troops, earning praise across the country for their display of heroism.
