Germany, which is heavily dependent on energy resources supplied by Russia, has not yet introduced a complete ban on imported gas from this country.

However, Berlin’s cities are trying their best to reduce this dependency.

Answering questions from the public earlier on Sunday, O. Scholzas pointed to various German efforts to find alternative energy sources, including liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The chancellor expressed the hope that the first LNG import terminal, which Germany is about to build, will be able to start construction next year.

“Then our security problem can be solved sometime in the beginning of 2024”, he said.

As Russia cuts gas supplies to Germany, Europe’s largest economy is bracing for energy shortages in the coming winter.
