The trade union “Verdi” has invited the employees of the ground services on Friday from 3:00 a.m. (2:00 a.m. GMT) until 11:59 p.m. stop work. According to the airport, the consequences of this strike for passengers should be very minor.

First, three outbound and three inbound flights were canceled in the morning, according to the airport’s website. Most of them were flights to and from Helsinki and Munich, according to the report.

Hamburg Airport was scheduled to handle 135 and 132 flights and serve 37,000 passengers on Friday.

Employees of the service companies Groundstars, Stars and Cats were called to strike at the airport.

According to the trade union, this staff performs aircraft loading, delivers technical equipment, tows aircraft, handles baggage, de-ices aircraft, and also cleans aircraft cabins.

With the strike, Verdi is seeking to meet the demands of around 900 workers, such as paying workers €3,000 in inflation compensation and €200 backdated from January 1. another 5.5 percent raise wages. The next negotiations are scheduled to be held on February 19.
