The hottest spot on the front for some time now is Bakhmut in the eastern Donetsk region and its surroundings. On Sunday, the commander of the private military mercenary group Wagner, J. Prigozhin, and later the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that they had taken full control of Bakhmut.
While attending the G7 summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appeared to confirm that Ukraine had lost the city of Bakhmut, adding that “nothing is left” of the city. “You have to understand that there is nothing there. Today, Bachmut is only in our hearts,” he said.
However, V. Zelenski later claimed that he was misunderstood and claimed in his native language that the city was not occupied by Russia.
And on the night from Monday to Tuesday, an explosion occurred in the building of the Russian Security Service (FSB) in Belgorod. Soon, footage from Belgorod appeared on the Internet showing smoke rising from the building and firefighters running down the street.
Nv.ua writes that local authorities said that smoke was coming from the building on Preobraženska Street. The entire street was closed. Local authorities refused to explain what was happening.
The Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that an operation to create a “security belt” to protect the civilian population of Ukraine is underway in the Belgorod region of Russia, but only Russian citizens are involved in it. GUR representative Andrijus Jusovas told the Ukrainian public broadcaster “Suspilne” about this.
“The Russian Volunteer Corps and the Russian Freedom Legion, which consists of Russian citizens, launched an operation aimed at liberating the territories of the Belgorod region from the so-called Putin regime and pushing the enemy back in order to create a kind of security zone to protect the civilian population of Ukraine,” said A. Yusov.
