Until now, Lithuania, one of the leaders in the progress of the European telecommunications business, did not have a 5G diamond in its crown covering the entire country. However, this situation changes during the day, because about 65 percent of Lithuania and about 80 percent 5G connection provided by the company has been available to the country’s population since Monday. The company activated this service immediately after receiving RRT’s permission to use it in the auction for 30 million. 700 MHz and 3.5 GHz frequency licenses were purchased for a period of twenty years.

“We were the first in Lithuania to turn on all digital communication technologies – 2G, 3G, 4G, and now 5G. We have been preparing for this launch for many years and have invested over 100 million in the renewal of the entire network. euros. And although Lithuania was one of the last “pagans” in Europe in terms of the introduction of commercial 5G communication, we will show that we can become one of the leaders in the development of 5G communication. This is especially important for Lithuanian businesses, for which 5G technology will provide enormous growth potential and competitiveness. I am convinced that a more digital life is what the world of the future will need – a smarter, more sustainable and I very sincerely believe – a better one,” said Telia CEO Dan Stromberg.

Intensive development of 5G base stations is planned throughout 2023, the main focus will be primarily on the northeastern part of Lithuania, where Ericsson network equipment is planned to update all base stations. By mid-summer of next year, 99% of the wireless 5G connection will be on fire. territories of the country.

5G badge is the same, features are different

5G communication operating in Lithuania uses 3.5 GHz and 700 MHz frequencies. Devices in the 3.5GHz frequency coverage area will be able to reach speeds of up to 2 gigabits per second (2 Gb/s). Where 3.5GHz can’t reach, devices will automatically use the wide coverage 5G connection in the 700Mhz frequency band. Its speed will be similar to fast 4G, but it will have much more capacity and with much lower latency. Today, the 5G connection provided by the company operates in more than 100 Lithuanian cities and towns.

The company will first enable the fastest 5G operating in the 3.5 GHz frequency band in densely populated areas where huge amounts of data are moving, where there is no fiber optic cable yet, where high speed is required.

Since 2018, the first telecommunications company testing 5G technology in Lithuania has been providing commercial 5G services in a section of the 2100 MHz frequency band in Vilnius since January of this year.
