Zelensky condemned Russia’s attacks on gas infrastructure

--

In an evening video message broadcast in Kyiv on Saturday evening, V. Zelensky announced that the infrastructure that supplies gas to the European Union through Ukraine had been attacked.

Although Russian aggression has been going on for more than two years now, Russian gas continues to flow through Ukraine, just in much smaller quantities. State-owned gas company Naftogaz has previously blamed Russian attacks on its pipeline network, but did not provide details.

The company recently announced that from 2025 will no longer transport Russian gas to the West. Existing contracts with the Russian state company Gazprom expire at the end of this year. The main recipients of this gas are landlocked countries that cannot switch to liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Early Saturday morning, Russia hit Ukraine again with missiles aimed at its energy facilities. According to energy company DTEK, four thermal power plants were damaged.

After the strikes, V. Zelenskiy once again called on the West to provide more air defense support. In a video address, he explained that Russia expanded the scale of operations with mass attacks, thus making the work of Ukraine’s air defense even more difficult.

Ukraine needs more US Patriot air defense systems. Workers in Ukraine are currently repairing the damage caused by new Russian attacks, said V. Zelensky.
