As indicated in the draft decision of the municipality, the EC can award a monetary award in the name of Melina Mercouri, amounting to 1.5 million, to the cities that have been awarded the title of capital of culture. euros. The award is paid in the year of the title and is given to the city for the successful implementation of the project.

The municipality of Kaunas has received this bonus and indicates that it will share the bonus with the Kaunas district, with which it submitted the application: the cultural organizations of this municipality will be able to receive 221.4 thousand. euros through projects provided to the “Initiatives for Kaunas” program.
