This Saturday, May 11, the awards for the winners of the twenty-third “Lietuvos spaudos fotografia” competition took place in Vilnius City Hall. This year Golden frames” were awarded to eight photographers – Rokas Tenias, Vytautas Butkas, Sauliis Žiuras, Arvydas Gudus, Tadus Kazakevičius, Kęstučius Vanagas, Eimantas Geniis and Vidmantas Balkūnas. In addition, traditionally, out of all the photos included in the yearbook and the exhibition, the participants of the competition themselves chose the shot they liked the most, the author of which went to the “College Prize”.

This tradition is extremely important for the community of press photographers – it is an opportunity to celebrate the talent, good eye, quick reaction and wit of our colleagues every year. The winner of the new “Open category”, intended for beginner photographers and photography enthusiasts, Daiva Šeibelienė was also awarded. According to the organizers of the contest, this year’s geography of the winners is very wide – one prize each went to Kaunas, Tauragė, Panevėžys, Šiauliai.

Agnė Kazlauskaitė, temporary head of the European Commission’s representation in Lithuania, Simona Bieliūnė, Vilnius city vice-mayor, Rolandas Parafinavičius, head of the “Fotografijos namai” association, Mindaugas Černius, head of the TECHIN training center, Dainius Radzevičius, chairman of the Lithuanian Journalists’ Union, Andrius Repšys, head of UAB “Foto123” participated in the event and presented awards. , member of the competition commission, lecturer at the Academy of Arts of Kaunas College and photographer Svetlana Batura, head of the Association of Lithuanian Art Creators Jonas Staselis and chairperson of the Press Photographers Department of LŽS Evgenia Levin.

The Lithuanian Press Photography contest, which has been running for more than two decades, has been spreading the culture of responsible visual storytelling in the country. He encourages photographers to improve their skills and learn from each other. This year, the contest received over 3,000 photos from 90 professional photographers and 120 photos from 40 photography enthusiasts. As every year, professional photographs were evaluated by a competent international competition commission. And the “Open category” works were evaluated by a commission of professional media photographers. The winner in this category was chosen by the members of the main competition committee.

In addition to the main competition program, a special photo retrospective was presented at the event and exhibition, jointly curated by the Lithuanian Press Photographers Department of LŽS and the Representation of the European Commission in Lithuania. This part of the exhibition allows visitors to get to know the last 20 years of Lithuania’s EU membership through the prism of photojournalism. This is a unique opportunity to see the cultural and social changes in society, which gradually shaped the face of our country after joining the European Union family.

The exhibition “Photography of the Lithuanian Press 2024” will be on display in the Vilnius Town Hall until June 1. Later, the exhibition will be available in other Lithuanian cities.
