Huawei launched an electric car: is it a challenge to Tesla Model Y and what does AITO mean?

Like all AITO models, the electric crossover was jointly developed by Huawei and car manufacturer Seres. AITO’s brand name stands for Intelligence to Auto.

Huawei’s first electric car is already available for order at a price of 288,600 yuan ($41,500) and has collected 30,000 reservations in the first few hours. This was reported by the CarNewsChina website.

The Huawei AITO M5 EV electric car is a five-seater crossover with a modernized design. It has a sloping arched roof, a pointed “nose” and elongated LED headlights. The car turned out to be very simplified: the drag coefficient is only 0.266. The size of the electric car is equal to Tesla Model Y.

Huawei AITO M5 EV dimensions: length – 4785 mm; width – 1930 mm;
height – 1620 mm; wheelbase – 2880 mm; weight – 2235 kg.

Leather and wood are used for interior decoration, and the roof is completely glass. The two-spoke steering wheel is tapered at the bottom. The crossover received a virtual dashboard and a large touch screen. Naturally, Huawei has developed a multimedia system for it based on the Harmony OS platform. The car has two trunks – the main trunk of 369 liters and the front trunk of 80 liters.

The 272-horsepower Chinese electric car is offered in rear-wheel drive and 496-horsepower all-wheel drive versions. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 7.1 and 4.5 s, respectively.

All AITO M5 EVs are equipped with an 80 kWh battery. The rear-wheel drive version has a power reserve of 620 km, while the all-wheel drive version has a power reserve of 552 km.
