Volkswagen Group’s sales of battery-powered cars in Europe fell 24 percent to 74,400 in the first quarter, after demand for battery-powered electric cars fell due to lower subsidies and charging concerns.

The decrease is mainly related to the sales of Volkswagen and Porsche cars. The VW brand’s global battery-powered car sales fell 2.6 percent to 68,200 units, while Porsche’s global battery-powered car sales fell 53 percent to 4,300 units.

According to Porsche, the significant decline in sales of battery-powered cars was due to the upcoming revision of the Taycan, an all-electric sedan.

According to the VW Group, the supply of battery-powered vehicles from VW, Audi, Porsche, Skoda and Seat/Cupra brands will recover this year thanks to a large order book.

The automaker said in a statement that the group’s battery-powered vehicle order bank currently stands at approximately 160,000 vehicles. Orders for battery-powered cars from Western Europe developed positively between January and March, with more than double orders for all-electric models compared to the same period last year.

More demand for battery-powered cars in China

In the first quarter, the group’s global deliveries of battery-powered cars fell 3 percent. to 136,400 units, where sales in China rose 91 percent from a low base. to 41,000 and volumes in the US fell 16%. up to 13,300.

The group’s best-selling models were the VW ID4/ID5 siblings with 34,600 sold, followed by the VW ID3 (26,100), Audi Q4 E-tron (22,800), Skoda Enyaq (14,000) , Audi Q8 E-tron (9,600), VW ID Buzz (7,000) and Cupra Born (6,900).

VW Group’s all-electric cars planned for launch this year include the VW ID7 Tourer, Cupra Tavascan, Audi Q6 E-tron and Porsche Macan Electric.

In the first three months, deliveries of all types of power-driven vehicles increased by 3 percent. up to 2.1 million. The main growth factors were China – 8 percent. growth to 693,600, South America – 14 percent. growth to 118,500 and North America – 5 percent. an increase to 227,100. European deliveries were flat at 906,700.

Global deliveries of vehicles with internal combustion engines increased by 4 percent. and reached 1.9 million.
