The service was led by the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill. After he announced “Christ is risen”, V. Putin together with other believers replied “He is truly risen”, informs agency “Reuters”.
Kirill, a close ally of V. Putin and a supporter of the war in Ukraine, in his prayers, according to the state news agency TASS, asked for the protection of “the holy borders of Russia” and expressed the hope that God would stop the “mutual conflict” between Russia and Ukraine.
In the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, meanwhile, tight security measures are in place during the Orthodox Easter. In a statement issued a few days ago by the city’s military administration, residents were urged not to go to churches and watch services online for security reasons.
Serhiy Popko, the head of the military administration of the city of Kyiv, emphasized that Russia can activate its missile attacks on such occasions. “Don’t forget that the country is at war,” he said on the Telegram network. “Even on such happy holidays, we can expect malicious actions from the aggressor, including the threat of missile attacks.”
