Armenia has agreed to surrender territory it has controlled since the 1990s and has begun the process of drawing a new border in an effort to reach an elusive peace deal with Baku and avoid another bloody conflict.

The territorial concessions fueled weeks of protests, with protesters blocking major roads in an effort to force Pashinyan to reverse course.

The leader of the protests, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, called on all those opposed to the deal to flood the streets of Yerevan on Monday to once again voice their protest.

The Interior Ministry confirmed to the AFP news agency that 151 people had been arrested and said that the protesters had not been able to block any street in Yerevan.

According to an AFP reporter, hundreds of people took part in the demonstration.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Armenia and Azerbaijan, the two countries of the South Caucasus, have long been at odds over disputed territory, particularly Nagorno-Karabakh.
