Hundreds of people took to the streets of Hamburg on Saturday to protest Islamism and anti-Semitism and support the liberal values of Germany’s democratic constitutional order.
Hundreds of people took to the streets of Hamburg on Saturday to protest against Islamism and anti-Semitism and support the liberal values of Germany’s democratic constitutional order.
The demonstration in Hamburg was planned as a protest against last week’s Islamist marches, which sparked outrage across the country. The participants of the Islamist march called for the establishment of a caliphate.
The caliphate as a form of government emerged after the death of the Prophet Muhammad in 632 AD and refers to a system based on Islamic law. As Muhammad’s representative, the caliph acts as both a religious and a secular ruler.
According to the police, about 800 people participated in Saturday’s rally. The organizers expected up to 1 thousand.
“No one harms the Islamic religion and Muslims more than the Islamists themselves,” complained Ali Ertan Toprak, the national chairman of the Kurdish community that represents Kurds in Germany and helped organize the rally.
