After returning 21 percent this year. value added tax (VAT) rate (a preferential 9% VAT was applied to catering and cultural sectors, which were particularly affected by COVID-19), small catering businesses were forced to take various measures: some shorten the working hours of cafes and restaurants, others reduce the number of employees, others raises the prices of meals.
“Anykšta” asked residents of Anykšta: have you felt the rising prices? How do you react to that? Maybe you don’t go to cafes anymore, you choose cheaper meals?

Audronė BEREZAUSKIENĖ, head of the Regional Documents and Local History Department of the Anykščiai L. and S. Didiņuli Public Library:
“We felt the prices. If we used to go to “Seklyčias” more often, now our visits are rare. I often have lunch at Erdve, the prices there are quite normal. But the rise in prices is felt – in the past we allowed ourselves to go to the cafe more often – with our children, with our grandchildren, and now we are already thinking: whether to go or to make it at home.
Prices are different in Anykščiai cafes, one is more expensive, the other is cheaper. The price of lunch during the day is quite normal, but when it ends, if you go to eat around 13 o’clock, you will not get anything, the ordered dishes start, and their price varies greatly. Be aware, we find more places in Kaunas where you can have lunch cheaper. Maybe the prices are higher here because there aren’t many customers. But overall, I can’t complain too much – everything is good.
And there are cafes in cafes, but what worries me the most is the price of water, in Anykščiai it is probably the highest in Lithuania. We say that we probably bathe in mineral water…
