“Russian state hackers attacked Germany in cyberspace,” A. Baerbock said during a visit to Australia, adding that this event will not remain without consequences.

in 2023 in June, the SPD, which holds the majority in Germany’s governing coalition, announced that its leaders’ e-mail email accounts became the target of a cyber attack.

According to SPD, this was due to a software vulnerability that was not known about at the time of the attack. “It cannot be ruled out that from individual e-mails mailboxes were leaked,” said the SPD representative.

According to A. Baerbock, the German government has already completed an investigation into the incident, led by the Foreign Office.

“We can see a clear link between this attack last year and the group APT28, which is controlled by the Russian secret service GRU,” Baerbock said. “This is completely unacceptable and will not go without consequences.”

Summoned the Russian envoy

Germany said on Friday it had summoned Russia’s top envoy to the foreign ministry over a cyber attack on members of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) by Russian state-backed hackers last year, which Berlin blames on Russia.

“We have summoned the chargé d’affaires of the Russian embassy,” a foreign ministry spokesman told reporters, adding that the government would “use a full range of measures to deter and respond to aggressive Russian behavior in cyberspace.”
