29 years old Eimantas Stanionis (14-0-0, 9 KOs) will return to the ring after a 2-year hiatus. The regular WBA welterweight world champion from Lithuania will fight the 37-year-old Venezuelan this weekend, May 4, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (USA) Gabriel Maestre (6-0-1, 5 KOs).
“I am very happy and grateful to be able to ‘warm up’ Canelo with Munguia. I can’t wait for my fight.
Time passes very quickly. We fought with Stanionis for the first time in 2015. That fight didn’t end the way I wanted it to. Now I got a chance for revenge and I can prove what I’m really worth. I hope that we will give the fans a good fight and that I will win it,” said G. Maestre.
If E. Stanionis did not fight for the last 2 years for various reasons, then G. Maestre had two fights last year. The Venezuelan believes that greater activity in recent years can be his advantage over E. Stanionis.
“Stanionis hasn’t fought for about 2 years, and I haven’t fought since 2019. I fight non-stop. I had 2 great fights last year where I showed my skills and got a knockout. Now I feel 100 percent. ready for the fight and I hope that more activity will be my advantage in this fight.
I can promise that on May 4 you will see the best version of me. You will see a fighter who will create a good spectacle, who is not afraid to go to war. You won’t want to miss it,” said G. Maestre.
After a short comment, G. Maestre got into the ring and held an open training session.
