29 years old Eimantas Stanionis (14-0-0, 9 KOs) will return to the ring after a 2-year hiatus. WBA regular welterweight world champion from Lithuania already this weekend, May 4. (early morning of May 5, Lithuanian time), will fight the 37-year-old Venezuelan at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (USA) Gabriel Maestre (6-0-1, 5 KOs).

The last “warm-up” took place on Thursday Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Jaime Munguios press conference of participants in the program’s fights. E. Stanionis and G. Maestre also appeared in it.

In his opening speech, Mr. Maestre thanked God and everyone who helped organize this tournament. The Venezuelan noted that there will be a real war between two great fighters in the ring. E. Stanionis spoke about the fact that he waited a long time to return to the ring and that the opportunity to fight in Las Vegas is like a dream come true for a boxer from a small state. The Lithuanian, like his opponent, thanked the PBC, WBA and everyone who helped organize the fight, talked about the “fireworks” waiting in the ring and promised to show something special in the ring, as it should be before the “Cinco de Mayo” holiday.

“I am used to being an outsider. I fought twice in the US as a “B” fighter and you saw how it all ended. Stanionis and I fought a long time ago in the world championship. He won then, even though I thought I deserved to win. It doesn’t matter anymore. We are professionals now and it will be a good fight either way. I don’t know exactly how our second fight will end, but I know it will be a real war. The audience will see blood, sweat and tears,” said G. Maestre.

E. Stanionis accepted his opponent’s words with a smile, because he defeated the Venezuelan in all rounds in the amateur ring (30:27, 30:27, 30:27). Previously, G. Maestre had already stated that he lost that fight by a different decision of the judges, also forgetting the facts.

“Yes, I didn’t fight for a long time, but I never stopped training because I was always promised that I would fight soon. I know that the opponent will give his all in the ring, that for him it is a matter of life and death, but my situation is the same. I worked hard to get here, I’m happy to fight here and I’ll do everything to stay undefeated and keep the championship belt. A real war awaits in the ring. We will meet in the middle of the ring and let our fists go to work – we will show the real Mexican boxing style,” said the Lithuanian.

E. Stanionis noted at the press conference that he is now concentrating on the fight with G. Maestre, and if he beats him, then there would be nothing against meeting the same evening Mario Barrios and Fabiano Maidana the winner of the fight, which would give the Lithuanian an opportunity to “unify” the belts.

“I know that Barrios agrees to fight everyone, just like me. This is the style of the boxers of the 1980s and I like it”, said E. Stanionis.
