Panathinaikos of Athens dramatically extended their season in the Euroleague. Pupils of Ergin Ataman in Belgrade 95:88 (26:29, 23:21, 25:19, 21:19) broke Maccabi Tel Aviv.

In the quarter-final series up to three wins, the result became equal – 2-2. The decisive meeting will take place next week in Athens.

Maccabi won the first (91:87) and third (85:83) meetings, Panathinaikos won the second (95:79) and fourth.

In the middle of the fourth quarter, “Panathinaikos” was in serious danger when the deficit increased to 7 points (75:82) after Jasiel Rivera’s two-pointer. The Greek team was put on his shoulders by Kendrick Nunn, who reduced the deficit to a minimum (87:88) with 2 minutes left.

Maccabi continued to stall in the crucial minutes, with Kostas Slouks and Mathias Lessort scoring two penalties each. With a minute left, Slouk’s two-pointer created a 5-point lead for the Athens team (93:88), and the victory remained in the hands of Panathinaikos.

Marius Grigonis scored 8 points (1/1 doubles, 2/5 triples), 1 rebound, 1 error, 1 foul and 5 utility points for the winners in 14.5 minutes.

Tel Aviv saw the return of Wade Baldwin in this game, but it didn’t last long. The Maccabi leader started the game in the starting five, but suffered a recurrence of calf pain in the second half which ruled him out.

Baldwin managed to play 7.5 minutes, during which he collected 3 points (1/1 double, 0/1 triple, 1/2 penalty), 3 assists and 5 utility points.

In the ranks of the Athens team, Sloukas stood out the most, with 20 points (5/9 doubles, 1/2 triples, 7/7 penalties), 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 32 utility points in 33 minutes.

Nunn was the most productive among the winners, scoring 27 points in 32 minutes (6/8 doubles, 3/7 triples, 6/6 penalties). He also had 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 27 utility points.

“Panathinaikos” started the match solidly, when they built up an 8-point lead (20:12). However, Maccabi responded quickly and had a minimal advantage (50:49) before the long break.

In the third quarter, the teams did not get closer to double digits. Although “Panathinaikos” had gained a 6-point advantage (74:68), it quickly disappeared and in the middle of the fourth quarter they already had to chase their opponents (75:82). However, the Greek team managed to win.

For the Tel Aviv team, Lorenzo Brown scored 17 points (8/11 doubles, 0/6 triples, 1/1 penalty), 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 19 utility points in 30 minutes.
